From the very first listen, “How It Looks” entraps the audience with a vocal prowess reminiscent of the greats. This mesmerizing track is a powerful combination of R&B, pop, and soul sensibilities, delivered with a lyrical intensity that hits straight to the core. The song is more than just a sonic experience – it’s an emotional voyage that grips listeners from start to finish.

Making her debut amid the tumultuous events of 2020, Ruby Gaines quickly garnered attention and acclaim from listeners, industry insiders, and the media.

Her inaugural single “Cardamom” unveiled a bold, confident, and emotionally resonant talent, while her follow-up, “Without A Gun,” was a poignant exploration of adolescent angst and anxiety, shedding light on the often unspoken mental health struggles of today’s youth.

As 2021 posed new challenges for artists, Gaines didn’t shy away. Instead, she immersed herself in the craft she loves, focusing her energies on writing and demoing. Collaborating extensively with Stina Tweeddale, co-founder of ICEBLINK LUCK and the brain behind Honeyblood, Gaines emerged with a collection of new songs signalling an exciting evolution in her creative journey.

The anticipation for “Heavy Good” is, without a doubt, heavy with expectation. But if “How It Looks” is any indication of what’s to come, we’re all in for a treat.

Through her emotive lyrics and captivating sonic palette, Ruby Gaines is not just creating music; she’s carving out a distinct space in the music world, one heartfelt note at a time.

Ruby Gaines said the following about ‘How It Looks’:

This song is about laying yourself down in front of someone and asking them to see you but they refuse. It’s about the “bro’s before hoes” lads that don’t want to see their bros’ actions as harmful and about me finally saying “Fuck this, and fuck you too. You don’t want to hear me speaking my truth? I’ll start loudly singing it instead.
