Vela Jones returns with her sleek new single “Frequency (Turn Me Up),” a laser-guided slice of futuristic dance-pop beamed from her ongoing sci-fi narrative, VelaWorld 2099. Stationed conceptually on the distant colony of Proxima b, Jones uses the neon mechanics of club music to tether herself to the emotional gravity of the world she left behind.
The track wastes no time finding its stride. Anchored by a syncopated, rubbery slap house groove, the melody bounces along a low-pitched, cyclical rhythm that refuses to let up. It is built on short, punchy phrasing and a hook that steadily tightens its grip, gathering tension with swirling synths before snapping back into a driving, heavy pulse. Lyrically, Jones radiates absolute authority over an intimate encounter; this is an unapologetic demand to abandon hesitation and submit to the magnetic current between two bodies.
Where synthetic pop concepts often risk feeling chilly or detached, Jones delivers something undeniably physical and club-ready. There is a curious thrill in hearing an artist marooned decades into the future remind us how intoxicating mutual attraction can feel.
When the signal cuts out, are we dancing toward the future or simply chasing our own echoes?
